Standard Snowday Service

School, college and day nursery closures due to severe weather conditions happen all year round. The UK's climate has changed considerably in recent years and we now experience flooding in the summer and heavy snow in the winter. This leaves thousands of Principals with the difficult task of informing parents, staff members and students about closures. Snowday.co.uk is an emergency service especially designed to help in these situations. In the event of a closure, for whatever reason, you can sign into the snowday website and submit a closure notice which will be displayed to parents and students who use the Snowday search function. The standard Snowday service is now completely free for schools, colleges and day nurseries.

As well as closure notices you can also enter your school, college or day nursery's term dates, inset days, event days and newsletters for parents to read online.

Additional Services

Some emergency situations, such as worsening weather conditions or fire require a closure during school, college or day nursery hours. In the event of these situations parents need to be contacted quickly so they can pick up their children. Snowday.co.uk provides an additional service called Automatic Closure Alerts.

You can create or import a data base of parents and staff emergency contact details onto the snowday website. If there is an emergency closure during or just before the start of the day parents and staff members can be immediately notified by automatic email or text to their mobile.You will be able to enter one e-mail address and one mobile telephone number for each staff member or parent added to the database. Each parent or staff member added will cost just 25p per year and then it is free to send unlimited email alerts to them, with an additional 10p charge per SMS text alert sent. When an emergency closure notice is added it is displayed on the Snowday website. It will also be sent via e-mail and text to all parents or staff members who have been recorded in the database.

We also offer parents and students the chance to register for this extra service independently of their school, so please let them know when you register.
